Top 10 Places to go in the United Kingdom

This is no ordinary Top 10 list.  I could easily create a list of 10 wonderful and recognizably British places to go and sights to see in the UK, including; the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, a trip to Stonehenge, or a ride on the London Eye.  While these are “can’t miss” opportunities, this list (in no particular order) is more adventurous, eccentric and not for the faint-of-heart.

Pomegranates and Andalucia or Gaudi and Catalonia

From the day I entered UCSD, I knew that I wanted to study abroad in Barcelona.  The big, cosmopolitan city seemed like the perfect place for to me to practice Spanish, get to know Spain, and visit the rest of Europe on the weekends.I had heard of Barcelona from friends and family who had visited Europe and seen images of it in movies like L’Auberge Espagnole.  It seemed like the city for me and up until the last minute, I didn’t really explore other options until I saw a friend who opened my eyes to Granada.

The Sakura is Everywhere

My Spring program at Meiji Gakuin University in Totsuka (in the Yokohama area) luckily began near the end of March, right as the cherry blossoms were blooming.  While I‘ve seen some cherry blossom trees here in the U.S., I finally understood why Japan was so prominent for their cherry blossoms.  They were literally everywhere--along a little alleyway, on the side of big streets, next to a 7-11, around homes and businesses--you name it.
