Amidst the excitement and the prospect of going abroad, please keep in mind the following important steps that must be followed between now and your departure. A signed copy of the Pre-Departure Requirements Form must be returned to the Programs Abroad Office. Please note that UOEAP is the Universitywide Office of EAP in Santa Barbara.
EAP Pre-Departure Requirements Form
Download the Pre-Departure Requirements Form, sign and return it to the Programs Abroad Office.
Passport
You must have a valid passport to travel abroad. If you already have a passport, check the expiration date now. It must be valid 6 months beyond the end of your program. If you need to apply for or renew your US passport, it may take as long as eight weeks, and a renewed passport will have a different number. UCSD Mail Services is the closest passport processing location.
The name on your passport must be the same name that appears on all EAP paperwork. If you are not a US permanent resident, discuss with your advisor what paperwork you need to complete in order to re-enter the United States.
EAP country packets
You will be notified by email when your electronic pre-departure materials from UOEAP are ready. Occasionally you will also have to pick up hard copy forms. It is essential that all paperwork be completed on time and with close attention to detail.
Download a handout containing suggestions for obtaining passport photos, transcripts, and other items frequently requested by UOEAP.
Gap insurance
If you program begins in the middle of a quarter at UCSD, you will not be covered by the SHIP insurance while you are still in the United States after the beginning of the quarter that you are leaving. You should consider purchasing your own short-term student health insurance if you are not covered by your family's insurance.
Health clearance
Complete a health clearance at Student Health or at your private physician's office depending on your program. See
Disability self-assessment form
If you need help making arrangements to accommodate a physical or mental disability, turn in a self-assessment form (pdf) to your EAP advisor.
