Overview of Internships Abroad
Internships are often included in work abroad information; however, they may differ slightly:
- Internships tend to be directly related to your field of study or career.
- Internships may require a skill set or knowledge base particular to that position.
Types of Internships Abroad
For Academic Credit
- Usually unpaid
- Situated within a specific curriculum
- Typically relates to course work taken abroad
- May be eligible for financial aid and/or scholarships
Note: For internships arranged independently (not through a program provider), you must find a UC faculty advisor and make arrangements through the UCSD Academic Internship Program in order to get academic credit at UCSD.
Work Internships
- Not attached to a study program and not for academic credit
- May be paid or unpaid
- Self-arranged or through a program that offers placement
- Not eligible for financial aid
- Typically full time
