Why you should go
Buenos Aires is one of the great cities of the world. Since its foundation, it has been a place where people, cultures, and ideas have come together. Today, it is the vibrant capital of one of the most progressive countries in Latin America, known for its wide boulevards, outstanding museums, dynamic markets, world-class restaurants, and a thriving live music scene. Beyond Buenos Aires, students will have the opportunity to explore Argentina’s remarkable landscapes, from the Atlantic coast and the Andes to Iguazú Falls and the wilds of Patagonia.

Bretton Rodriguez earned his PhD in Literature from the University of Notre Dame. Prior to joining the Revelle College Humanities Program, he taught a wide range of courses in the humanities at the University of Nevada, Reno; Boğaziçi University in Istanbul; Indiana University, South Bend; and Notre Dame.
Research Interests: Medieval literature, religious identity in medieval lberia, ideas of history and writing history, engaged teaching, teaching of writing and rhetoric.
Who should go
Everyone is welcome. Revelle College students can fulfill two Humanities requirements through this program: HUM 5 and either HUM 3 or HUM 4 (to be replaced by LTAM 110GS). Consult your academic advisor to verify how the courses will apply to your graduation requirements.

Flight Information
- You will be responsible for purchasing your own airplane tickets, and your program coordinator will provide guidelines and resources during the pre-departure process to help you find an appropriate flight.
- Do not purchase plane tickets until the program is confirmed. All approved applicants will be notified by e-mail when the program has reached minimum enrollment.

Housing
- Homestay — Students will live with a local Argentine host family in a private bedroom located in the safest neighborhoods near the city center. All host families have been vetted by the on-site organization.
- One student per room with their own bed. One or more UC San Diego students may be placed in the same home.
- Shared bathroom (maximum 4 people per bathroom).
- Designated study space, either a desk in the bedroom or common area.
- Within a maximum 35-minute commute to the study center via public transportation.
- Breakfast and dinner will be provided daily by the host family. Students may have informal access to the kitchen for personal use, subject to specific house rules.
- Laundry is not included, as few apartments in Buenos Aires have in-unit machines. Students may use Fluff and Fold lavanderías nearby, which is how most locals do their laundry. Simply drop off your laundry and it will be washed and folded for pickup. Costs average around $5-$10 USD per load.
- Wireless Internet available at the homestays; speeds may be slower than customary WiFi in the United States.
- Housing arrangements are subject to change based on local circumstances without prior notice. No price adjustments are possible.
Included Meals
- Daily breakfast and dinner in the homestay (lunches on non-excursion days are the responsibility of the student)

- Group lunch during the Tigre day trip
- Empanada cooking class
- Two breakfasts and one group lunch (in Colonia) during the Uruguay overnight excursion
- Farewell dinner at end of program
Classroom and Computer Access
- Classroom space is located in Palermo
- Wireless Internet in the classroom
- There is no computer lab available - plan to bring a laptop.
- Wireless access may be intermittent due to local conditions. No refunds or price adjustments are possible.
Transportation
- Arrival and departure airport transportation will be provided for students who arrive/depart within a specified window. Further instructions will be provided during the pre-departure phase in March.
- All public transportation costs for program-related activities are included. Students will be provided a public transportation card with 10 complimentary rides. Students are responsible for any additional rides.
- Transportation for all out of town excursions is included.
Phones
- Information about how to obtain a local SIM card will be provided at the pre-departure orientation.
- Students will be responsible to purchase their own calling time/minutes.
Insurance, Health, and Safety
- Comprehensive insurance package: Students will be covered by both the study abroad provider organization and UC Travel insurance.
- An in-depth orientation will be given on the morning after arrival, including health and safety procedures.
- Program partner staff will be available by telephone after hours.
- All students will be enroll in UC travel insurance.
