Chioma Amadi

Global Educator

Hi! I'm Chioma and I am a third year Cognitive Behavioral Neuroscience & Human Developmental Science double major in 7th College. I studied at International Christian University (ICU) located in Tokyo. Ever since I was younger, I knew I wanted to study abroad in Japan so when I learned UCSD had great study abroad programs, it motivated me to attend even more. Being able to turn my childhood dream into a reality was such a surreal experience and I would consider my study abroad some of the best months of my life.

ICU was a small school surrounded by nature a bit farther away from the city, so it was quite nice to go to school at a place like that. Some of my memories of attending school in Japan was definitely the volunteer work I was doing with a local volunteer group in the town I resided in called Glocal Mitaka. Thanks to Glocal Mitaka, I was able to experience a wealth of experiences I would not even have dreamed of experiencing as an international student in another country. Whether it was reading Japanese picture books to children, a nature therapy forest tour, sweet potato harvesting, or even playing around in the Akigawa River during a river cleanup event, those memories as well as how kindly Glocal Mitaka treated me and my fellow international peers will follow me for a lifetime.
